Uniforms

Folks first taking our self-defense classes are encouraged just to wear loose, comfortable clothes.

However, folks who wish to continue on after an intro course are encouraged to acquire the traditional workout uniform used in karate: the “gi.”  Made out of a resilient canvas material that’s designed to breathe, these uniforms are rugged and are highly unlikely to tear with use.  New members are encouraged to start with a light weight gi.

At the Kentucky Shudokan Club, we recommend KI Gi’s, because they tend to be more durable then some other manufacturers, while still being very economical.

Light Weight Uniforms

Light Weight Uniforms are recommended for new club members, as they’re less expensive than heavy weight gis, but are still pretty tough.

Pricing is normally $25 for a light weight gi, but they are currently offering discounted pricing.

Heavy Weight Uniforms

Heavy Weight Uniforms are preferred by many experienced karate people who’ve been training awhile, who want the protection and feel of the most durable type of gis.   These run around $50.

Mugen Orange Label Uniforms

These are a new type of uniform designed to give the solidity of a heavy weight gi, while being lighter weight.  These are also cut a bit roomier, so they’re very popular with our club.  These generally run from $48-$58.

Should I get it Embroidered/Personalized?

While Ki does offer embroidery services, we suggest that newcomers wait on personalized gi’s until they’ve been training awhile.
